Bright Idea

WE started something called the Honor Project in our home yesterday. Whenever the kids say words that they know they can't say (ie, stupid, poo-poo head, shut-up), or call eachother names, or hit/push/smack the life out of eachother, they owe us a quarter (2 quarters for hitting). WE made a bowl for it and everything. I wrote a few scriptures on the bowl about Honor and well, we will see. The money goes to a charity of some sort each month. Conversation between Me, Lexi and Aaron last night before catching fireflies:

Me: "So do you understand what 'honor' means?"
Lexi: "Yes, to respect eachother."
Me: "That's right. How do you honor God with your hands, for example?"
Aaron: "not hitting, helping, praying, and catching fireflies!"
Me: "Good, AAron, that's right."
Lexi: "Yeah, and smashing firelflies once you catch them!!!"

HMMM? I'll let you know how this works out.

That's a cute idea. For over a year now, we still do the hot sauce game with words like that. 1 drop of hot sauce stopped the word stupid. Ryder isn't allowed to reference any of those words (poop head etc) towards anyone. No name calling. But he can say the words just not in the context that we disapprove of. Hot Sauce works for Ryder.

Melissa---Our rule is the same--basically, they can't call anyone names. But, I won't lie, it would be great if they would just quit talking about human waste altogether, ya know?!!! The hot sauce worked for us pretty good. But, we have hit a new phase and the quarters hit them where it hurts right now--they don't want to depart with the money they are saving for special things!!
Whatever works, right?

There's nothing better than starting your day with a belly laugh!!!! What a hoot, Lexi! Hope this works for you, hon! Sounds like it might....

Lexi never fails to bring a smile to my face---in fact, so do Aaron and Eli! Maybe looking up honor in the dictionary would help. HA

I just reread this and it is even funnier the second time around. I can just see the twinkle in her eye as she made that statement.
